McNamara returns to Nazaré

January 29, 2013 | Words By: Staff Writer

Garrett McNamara, who made history in Nazaré during ZON’s North Canyon expedition in 2011, winning the Billabong XXL Biggest Wave award and earning a Guinness World Record, returned to Nazaré straight from Hawaii to surf a swell forecast to produce wave heights and conditions that had yet to be experienced in Praia do Norte.

McNamara was accompanied by his trusty partner Kealii Mamala, another big wave rider who had several epic rides. Kamaki Worthington, also from Hawaii, ran water safety along with Hugo Vau.
