News PLA announces surf series 2008

Return to Surfing With 2008 Southern California Surf Series by Howard Swanwick

01/02/2008:// The Professional Longboard Association is excited to announce their return to the world of surfing with North America’s only Professional Longboard Surfing Series.

Started in 1990, the Professional Longboard Association became a platform for young unknown amateurs and professionals to compete in the sport of surfing. After a 5 year layoff, the Professional Longboard Association is ready to surf the waters, and once again become a platform for professional surfers.

The sport of Longboarding has seen its up’s and down’s over the last decade, with the sport once again on the rise, and the surfers ready to take center stage, the Professional Longboard Association has partnered with the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) to help build a strong surfing platform that Longboarders can once again trust, and feel proud to be a part of.

The Association of Surfing Professionals, the International Governing Body of Surfing, has agreed to sanction two of the five Professional Longboard Association’s surf contests in 2008. The partnership between these two organizations not only helps bolster the Professional Longboard Association’s competition level and credibility, but also gives the Association of Surfing Professionals two additional qualifying contests for their surfers to attend the World Longboard Championships held internationally each year.

ASP North America is really excited to welcome the addition of two new events from the Professional Longboard Association. We feel this is a great stepping stone towards the creation of a North American Longboarding Tour,” said Meg Bernardo, Executive Manager of ASP North America.

The Professional Longboard Association’s 2008 surf series will be based in Southern California, and feature some of the top professional surfers in North America. Event cities include; Ventura Beach Promenade (May 30- June), San Diego- Mission Beach (August 16-17), Huntington Beach Pier (September 20-21), Oceanside Pier (October 3-5), and one other unconfirmed Orange County beach community.

Association of Surfing Professionals sanctioned contests:

May 30th -June 1st- Ventura, California

October 3rd -5th – Oceanside, California
