News Praa Sands Frostbite series

Cornish surfers told to warm up for South to South sessions by George Mojo

12/02/2008:// Cornish surfers are being told to warm up for the second leg of the South to South Frostbite Sessions at Praa Sands.

Organiser and surf coach Tyson Greenaway has been studying the weather charts with great intensity, since he called off the previously scheduled event at Portreath due to windblown surf conditions a few weeks ago.

The first leg held at Gwithian in December was a huge success with almost perfect conditions in which the surfers put on an awesome display, defying the age of some of the competitors as young as 12. They will no doubt be hoping for more of the same, and the chance to show their best.

Newquay's Jack Butler, a British Junior team member, is currently leading the Under 16 division, with Morgan Bushe from St Agnes in second place.

In the under 18's Marcus Lascelles will have to work hard to maintain his lead over Newquay surfer Tom Butler who he narrowly defeated by just one point at Godrevy.

Check in for the event is at Praa Sands at 8.00pm on Saturday 16th Feb.

The event consists of three, one-day contests, for surfers in categories 16 and under, and 18 and under, and based on the best two results, the top four surfers from the series will compete in a mobile Grand Final.

They will be taken to the best waves available on the day, be it Porthleven, Bude or Aggie, to battle for the chance to win a lucrative sponsorship deal.

The package is aimed at providing a stepping stone into a future surfing career.

South to South team riders include Renato Galvao, Almao de Maresias, Emerson Piai, Lucinei Malas, Yage Araujo, Aline, Luiz Saraiva, Guillermo Ribeiro, Anjinjo, Tyson Greenaway, and James Mitchell.
