Thunderstorm Halts Progression by O'Neil Press

11/08/2005:// The O’Neill Pro, 5 star WQS surf event based in Anglet, France continued to make progress today, speeding through to heat 8 of the round of 144 before a violent thunder storm swept in off of the Atlantic and pulled the plug on the days’ proceedings.

This morning, to the delight of surfers and event officials alike, wave conditions at Les Plage des Cavaliers had slightly increased and contest officials were aiming to complete the round of 144 before the close of play today. But Mother Nature had different ideas and despite the promising start, weather conditions deteriorated throughout the day until a blazing thunder and lightning storm accompanied by heavy rain issued the killer blow to the day 3 of competition.

Despite the premature end to the day, rapid progression to the contest was achieved through the event organizers decision to split the banks and run two heats simultaneously. The split peak tactic is likely to be in place throughout the remainder of the weeks contest.

Today’s results are available via www.oneilleurope.com

The next call for competition will be at 07:00 tomorrow morning (11/08/2005)
