by George Mojo
03/03/2008:// The countdown to Europe’s biggest surf, skate and music festival has officially begun. The Rip Curl Boardmasters in association with Relentless Energy Drink will return for a 27th year to Newquay from 4th – 10th August 2008 for its biggest event to date and an epic week of world class action sports and music.
This year’s events include a fierce 5* Men’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) surf contest, the UK leg of the Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Tour, Vans Summer Session Vert skate and Eastpak Miniramp contests. Alongside premier sporting action will be the Boardmasters trade village and Foster’s Beach Bar showcasing 5 nights of the biggest and best live music acts at the iconic Fistral beach.
August 8th and 9th plays host to the Rip Curl Boardmasters Unleashed music festival overlooking Watergate Bay. 35 internationally renowned acts will play across two live stages which have been previously graced by the likes of Razorlight, Feeder, ASH, Newton Faulkner and last year’s headliner, Paolo Nutini, as well as supporting up and coming acts like The Ting Tings.
Organisers are thrilled to announce that one of the UK’s biggest live dance bands GROOVE ARMADA have been confirmed as headliners on Friday 08th August.
Famous for some of the biggest dance anthems of our times Groove Armada will most definitely bring on the party spirit to the festival with their revved up live show. With a massive back catalogue and a career spanning Best of out at the moment you can expect a greatest hits set consisting of some of the biggest, towering songs of our times such as I See you Baby, Superstylin’ and At The River, the songs that made Groove Armada the household name that they have become.
They formed when DJ’s Andy Cato and Tom Findlay met in 1995 and they have gone on to become one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of recent times.
From starting their own club night they went onto become regulars on the club scene, released four albums, reinvented the house music wheel, have been nominated for a Grammy award and witnessed their Best of fly off the shelves. 3 million album sales later Groove Armada has been a vehicle for success more than the pair could ever have imagined.
Support for this day is still to be announced but again in the tradition of Unleashed expect an eclectic line up across the two stages featuring some of the hottest up and coming bands of the moment.
