News Groms Head Off On Green Exchange Scheme

Eleven young surfers on second Errant Grom Exchange by Howard Swanwick

06/03/2008:// Only two weeks untill eleven young surfers from Newquay, Wales and Croyde pack up their bags, and wave goodbye to the wind and rain. The group of surfers will be heading out on the second Errant Grom Exchange to Loredo, Northern Spain.

After last years success in Lanzarote, the groms will be coached using the latest video coaching techniques, and will be accommodated in La Hosteria, Errant’s latest addition to its range of surfing destinations.

Not only will the groms be surfing and coached everyday in warmer temperatures than back home, but they will be encouraged to learn and use Spanish on a day to day basis and gain basic life/travel skills which will be necessary when they move onto surfing in overseas events.

This year’s grom exchange will also leave a smaller Carbon Footprint. The groms will be heading over to Northern Spain via ferry from Plymouth, which is something that fits well with Errant’s green policy on offsetting all carbon emissions created in any of its clients travel.

The scheme has received a lot of praise and support from local authorities in the relevant districts and the industry in general.

“With quite a short fall in funding and sponsorship for young surfers, it is a fantastic opportunity that we are able to use our assets of surfing accommodation overseas to fund these ventures for up and coming surfers who may not have had the chance to travel and surf along different coastlines” Explains Chris Thomson, managing director of Errant Ltd. “After last years Lanzarote trip, many of our team riders and groms who took part in the trip went home and dominated in there divisions, proving that warmer water, and advanced surf coaching pays dividends”

Laura Crane, Lucy Campbell, Zak Lawton, Maisie Lawton, Max Tucker, Beau Broham, Cavan Donnelly, Jack Hughes, Dave Williams, Aaron Evans and Jamie Mather will make up the team ready to hit the surf of Loredo, Northern Spain.
