Finca Malvasia Launches New ‘Aspiring Surfer’ Break by Fiona Reece

10/03/2008:// Finca Malvasia in Lanzarote is set to become a must for those looking for a more stylish option than the usual surfer’s crash pad. The surf savvy owners of these new boutique self catering apartments have launched a number of surfing holiday options which incorporate stunning accommodation, delicious breakfasts, packed lunches, BSA accredited surf tuition, equipment hire and a relaxing post surf massage.

The ‘Aspiring Surfer’ is priced from £495 per person for a week’s holiday with five full days tuition, based on four sharing*. It’s perfect for the novice family looking to learn to surf together, groups of friends, or for those who are newish to the sport and require daily tuition. There is good availability throughout the Summer 2008 to take advantage of this new course.

Located in rural Lanzarote, Finca Malvasia is just 6km from the golden Famara beach that offers consistent, year round waves that are perfect for all levels, from total beginners to seasoned experts. Enjoy a healthy, sustaining breakfast before spending the day getting to grips with the waves. The day’s tuition runs from 10.30am to 4pm, and you will learn how to paddle out through waves, how to turn and manoeuvre correctly, how to ride broken and unbroken waves, and many other board skills. First lessons are on soft trainer boards, helping you to stand and ride waves on your first day, then you will move on to fibre glass boards during the course. As well as practical skills you will also learn about the history of surfing, surf board design, rules of surfing, and how the weather affects the waves. The surfing course is five days and is usually split into 2 days surfing, a rest day and then 3 days surfing. This leaves two days of relaxation at Finca Malvasia before heading home.

At the end of each day retreat to this stylish hideaway, set among working vineyards, for an utterly relaxing evening. For an additional £45, Finca Malvasia will prepare its ‘Surfer’s Supper’ – a Moroccan tagine which feeds up to four and is served on your terrace when you return hungry after a day in the sea.

Tarnya and Richard who own Finca Malvasia are expert surfers who have ridden the island’s waves for 10 years and are passionate about passing on their love of the sport. They will organise all aspects of your ‘Aspiring Surfer’ break, from hiring equipment to booking a trusted instructor, and offer a more personal approach to surfing the island.

For those with more experience, Richard offers individual guided tours of the island’s various breaks, taking you to some of the best and often lesser known surf spots. In addition, how about having your best ride captured by a professional surf photographer? Again they have the contacts to make that happen.

When you’re not catching waves, you can kick back in a hammock, take a dip in the lagoon style pool, or opt for one of the many massage and physiotherapy treatments that are on offer, from Cranio Sacral Therapy to Aromatherapy full body lymphatic massage.

Built in the style of the island’s famous designer, Cesar Manrique and true to traditional Canarian architecture, the four apartments are white rendered volcanic stone with some dramatic exposed stone interior walls and gardens. The setting is secluded, with a backdrop of volcanic mountains and lush vineyards providing the grapes for the island’s award winning Bermejo wine.
