News Billabong Girls Days 08

A celebration of Women surfing by Jonny Vale

18/03/2008:// Billabong Girls are back in the UK this July, hosting the Billabong Girls Surf Days on Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th in Woolacombe, Devon.

This entirely free event is open to beginners and advanced surfer girls, aged between 10 and 30. The weekend ensures to be a fantastic opportunity to discover surfing, not only the sport but its unique lifestyle too!

The Billabong Girls Days will take place over two days, and the participants will meet every morning for a programme full of action and fun!

The Billabong Girls Days are

100% Girls: only for girls

100% Sport: surf, yoga, hip-hop, Hawaiian dance

100% Surf spirit: all you need to know on the surfing lifestyle

100% Fun: live music and BBQ on the beach

100% Fashion: with fashion shows

100% SURF

Each day will start with a yoga session, the perfect warm-up before the surf.

Two sessions of surfing each day, will see the girls either learning to surf or improving their techniques. The girls will be divided into groups according to their skills and will receive tutoring from professional teachers as well as Billabong Pro surfers Léa Brassy and Alana Brennan.

In between the two sessions, the girls will be given tips on how to pick their equipment, choose a wave, how to behave in the water, safety etc…

To complement the learning, the girls will watch surfing videos and have the opportunity to talk to pro surfers about their recent surf trip to Tahiti in May 2008.

(All material boards and wetsuits will be provided by Billabong.)

100% SURF SPIRIT

Surfing is a sport and a lifestyle strongly connected to nature and the ocean.

The Billabong Girls Days will be the perfect occasion to raise awareness of environmental matters, and sensitize surf girls to the protection of the environment.

Pro-rider and Surf-rider Foundation members will hold workshops and conferences to raise awareness about the environment.

There will also be a special nutrition workshop showing how to feel good in mind and body through sport activities and living a healthy lifestyle.

Then, as the day comes to an end, a hip hop dance class will get them set for the evening.

100% FUN

The Billabong Girls Days is a celebration of surfing and music!

On Saturday evening a very special guest will play an acoustic set on the beach, followed by a DJ who will be playing music throughout the event.

100% FASHION

Participants will be invited to model for a special Billabong Summer 2008 fashion show… by the girls for the girls!

There will be also a “tie & dye” design-shirt competition for those who have more of an artistic vibe.

REGISTRATION

Girls can register on line at www.billabonggirlsdays.com, before July 1st, 2008. Remember it’s a first come, first served event and only the first 150 girls will be able to register!

The Billabong Girls Days European tour will be visiting the following spots.

Barcelona, SPAIN – On the weekend of the 19th and 20th of June (with ‘special Barcelona’ workshops, skate lessons and graffiti )

Miengo (Cantabria), SPAIN - Playa de Mogro – Tuesday July 1st & Wednesday July 2nd.

Hossegor/Seignosse, FRANCE - Plage des Bourdaines – Saturday July 5th & Sunday July 6th.

Woolacombe (Devon), UK – Main Beach - Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th.

Cascais, PORTUGAL – Guincho Beach - Wednesday July 30th until Saturday August 2nd.

THE PROS..

Alana BRENNAN

Raised alongside the waves in Kauai, Hawaii, Alana is one of the faces of Billabong Girl. For the last 10 years Alana has been touring the world on photo shoots, surfing sessions with her boyfriend Dean Morrison (who’s competing in the WCT) and has recently taken up acting. As an actress, model and free surfer for Billabong she perfectly embodies the values of the brand. The Billabong Girls Days will give Alana the occasion to share her experience with the all the ladies who love surfing in the UK.

Léa BRASSY

The pretty French surfer is Billabong’s ambassador in Europe and represents what the Billabong Girl is all about: natural, sporting, curious and hungry for life. Her passion for surfing has taken her all over Europe and around the globe. This talented surfer has chosen to be a free surfer, away from crowded surf spots and competitions. She aspires for peace and harmony and less for the spotlights of pro surfing. Boundless Lea loves to steer off towards new surf spots and cultures, making new friends along the road while continuing her studies in nursing.
