Newquay club meets to outline summer plan
by George Mojo
15/04/2008:// Newquay Boardriders have been the breeding ground for several county and national champions and been successful in their own right at the British Inter-club championships which are staged annually.
A special meeting on Thursday, April 17th, at the Newquay Sports Centre will outline the club's progress and what activities it has planned for the coming summer season.
With a vision for growth in the future, the club is also considering the development of a more formalised committee to help push everything forward to exciting new levels.
Since reforming the Newquay Boardriders, the club has gained significant success. Team members include Russell Winter, Tom Butler, Sean Harris, Russell Winter, Ben Baird, Gareth Llewellyn, and Jamie Owen
For the coming season the NBR is planning several fresh initiatives and a big priority is the refurbishment of the clubhouse at the International Surf Centre on Fistral Beach.
Following this, the club will be able to provide a great base for the development of the local surfing talent through ongoing NBR training and coaching sessions as well as becoming the centre for all of the Newquay surfing community at Fistral Beach.
The meeting will give surfers the chance to voice any ideas on what they would like to see happen with the NBR and also an opportunity to get involved with moving the club forward.
Sean Harris, the current co-Chairman, said, "With surfing at the heart of almost everything that we do in Newquay, the NBR has great potential to grow into one of the UK's strongest and largest clubs. We're really keen to bring new members in and to develop the club incorporating the ideas and visions of our membership so our meeting is the ideal opportunity for current and new members to come together and help set new and exciting plans in place for us to quickly and effectively grow.
"A strong and successful NBR can play a really key part in developing and benefiting the Newquay surfing community with its undeniable talent pool so we're really keen to see all of our local surfers, no matter what age and what level of surfing, joining us for this important meeting," he added.
