News Lewan fights back


Devon surfer regains form by George Mojo

12/09/2005:// North Devon-based Josh Lewan reversed a recent run of poor results with an equal 33rd place finish at the Pantin Surf Classic in Spain.

Lewan made it through to round three of the World Qualifying Series event before losing to Hira Teriinatoofa and Andrew King.

Newquay's Llewellyn Whittaker was the highest-placed Briton after making it through to the last 32 before bowing out to Australian Nic Muscroft.

Constantine Bay's Micah Lester, who defeated former Exeter University student Martin Black in round two, was also on course for a quarter-final place but couldn't find enough to get past Matt Jones and Matt Thompson.

Headworx team rider and BPSA tour leader Ruebin Pearce went down in his round three clash with Jay Thompson and Abdel El Harim.

British number one Russell Winter won his second round opener before faltering in his next heat against Jock Barnes and Leny Perdomo. The result leaves him in 31st place in the WQS rankings.

The final was won by New Zealander Naz Quinn who saw off the challenge of three Australians - Nic Muscroft, Josh Kerr and Kai Otton, to win his first title of the season.
