News Lewan on top


North Devon pro highest-placed Briton by George Mojo

18/01/2006:// North Devon pro surfer Josh Lewan was the highest-placed Briton on the European tour in 2005.

Lewan ended the season with 2,949 points from his top four events. The EPSA title was won by Frenchman Patrick Bevan.

Newquay's llewellyn Whittaker finished two places below Lewan with British number one Russell Winter in 34th spot overall.

Former Exeter University captain Martin Black just failed to make it inside the top 50, ending the campaign in 52nd place.

Cornwall's Mark Harris, who concentrated for most of the season in the BPSA circuit, was back in 68th place.

BPSA champion Ruebin Pearce was in 80th with Nick Reid, who suffered an devastating injury while practising radical aerial manoeuvres in September finished 94th.

Reid received multiple fractures to his leg and ankle during a surf session at Three Peaks on the Gower.

Reid, who faces a long recovery period, is hoping to return to the British Professional Surf Association tour next year.

In the longboard division, Welshman Dudley Elliot finished runner-up to France's Thimothe Creignou.

Jersey's Ben Skinner placed equal 9th overall along with Newquay's Lee Ryan and North Devon's Ashley Braunton.

Swansea's Chris Griffiths and Richard Kenyon shared 13th spot.
