News SAS Call on Volunteers To Carry On The Summer's Successful Work
[SAS need your help]
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) campaigners are calling for volunteers to help continue the successful streak in SAS’s marine litter campaign this year.

16/09/2008:// SAS need as many hands as possible to help out at their annual beach clean at Porthtowan this Saturday the 20th of September from 10:30am to 2:30pm as part of the annual Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beach Watch survey. Everyone welcome!
PHOTOCALL: At 11am a ‘green’ post box will be on the beach with the beach cleaners. All identifiable marine litter will be sent back to the manufacturers with a campaign message from the volunteers and SAS
This year has been another strong year for SAS. SAS’s marine litter campaign has already won a prestigious COAST Magazine award, taken over 1.2 tons of marine litter off 6 beaches in a nation wide anti beach litter tour and been successful in signing up high street retailers of sanitary related products to the SAS Think Before You Flush campaign.
The campaigning now continues with a ‘green’ post box on the beach, as part of the Return To Offender campaign. This campaign posts identifiable marine litter back to the manufacture with helpful guidance on how to stop their products becoming beach litter. This beach clean will be a great opportunity to finish off a successful summer’s campaigning, make a positive difference and be part of a fun day.
SAS will provide gloves, bags and dispose of the litter as well as providing refreshments for all volunteers. All the volunteers need to do is dress for the day’s weather, which will hopefully be like the last 3 years, glorious sunshine! Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
During the beach clean there will be the opportunity to win fantastic prizes kindly donated by Finisterre and Freak Fish surf shop. Then after the beach clean the Blue Bar are donating free coffees as a thank you to all the volunteers.
There is more litter than we can take in 1 day, but we’ve already seen this year, many hands can make a real difference! We need as many volunteers as possible to make this day successful and fun.
Andy Cummins, SAS Campaign Officer says: "The beach clean is a great event that everyone can get involved with and do something positive for Porthtowan beach. It's a fun event with a serious message that affects all beach users. Everyone is welcome to join us at Porthtowan, we have all the gear, refreshments and even a few prizes to give out. With your help Porthtowan will be a nicer beach.”
