News Ash Billabong deal


English junior champion signs for 2006 by George Mojo

 12/04/2006:// English junior champion Reubyn Ash has signed for the UK Billabong surf team for the 2006 season.

Ash, from Widemouth Bay in Bude, is also the current British under-18 title holder.

The 17-year-old Cornish surfer has been a regular on the British contest scene for several years and has shown consistent results in all the major championships.

Ash is currently training on the Gold Coast in Australia for the European Junior Series and has just been selected for the British team for the World Junior Surfing Championships to be held in Brazil in May.

"I am really stoked to have signed up for the team," he said. "Their support is going to give me the chance to achieve my surfing goals and get me out there in the surfing world."

Team co-ordinator Sam Carrier said Ash would add strength to the squad: "We are stoked to have Reubyn on our team, he has dominated junior surfing in the UK for the last few years. I am looking forward to seeing him compete in the European Juniors.

"One of his assets is his professionalism and drive, coming from the UK where the conditions are not always favourable for surfing, he has worked hard on his surfing and we are looking for big things from this young 17 year old," Carrier added.

Ash is aiming for a top six spot on the European Junior Series where he would earn a place to compete in the 2006 ASP World Junior Championships.
