2006 Animal Beach Ball set to roll for four days by George Mojo

13/07/2006:// With just hours to go, the 2006 Animal Beach Ball is all set to go for four massive days of fun and frolics down at Fistral Beach. From the 13th-16th July Newquay will see the Beach Ball’s unrivalled mix of surf, music, beach entertainment, partying and inspiration!

And it will kick off with a big bang as ‘School’s Out’, the largest ever multi-school sports day Cornwall has ever seen, rolls into town! Bare Feet Promotions, organisers of the Animal Beach Ball, have spent the last few months working with the Competitions Manager at Penryn Schools Sport Partnership to create an event that brings north and south Cornwall together and provides a new multi-sport platform to encourage children to participate and understand the benefits of beach and associated lifestyle activities.

Over 280 pupils from 7 schools across South Cornwall will travel to Newquay to showcase their talents and compete against all their counterparts in a range of fun beach contests including a tag team surf contest, a dance off, beach volleyball and a battle of the bands. A whole host of Animal prizes will be presented and the winning band will be given a unique opportunity to play on stage before the presentations on the final day of the Animal Beach Ball event.

And at the heart of the Animal Beach Ball is one of the surf scene’s favourite contests – the laid back, feel good Carve Surf Battle. With a new ‘Skins’ format this year’s Carve Surf Battle format gives surfers even more chances to win and will spread out the prize money to more of the competitors rather then just to the overall podium winners. And with a £500 bounty on triple winner Alan Stokes’ head, a team rider place up for grabs in the Grommets comp, women’s and longboarders competitions and the ever-entertaining Tag Team event as well as a new Expressions sessions, the surf action is set to sizzle.

Added to that the new ThreeSixy Magazine Big Boost Event will show spectators just why bodyboarding is back on the up. The 45 minute long heats will include up to 8 riders all aiming to achieve the same goal - to bust the biggest single move during that heat. This is a specialist event that will appeal to the top guys in the sport and those that have not been able to conform their riding style to fit the regular competition criteria that is traditionally used for events like this.

And out of the water, the action will be just as hot. An amazing array of surfside action will run through all the days including the Animal Braun cruZer³ bike show which comes to town with its insane aerial action. Featuring mountain bike trials legend Martyn Ashton and dirt jump maestro Grant ‘Chopper’ Fielder, the restyled 2006 show will astound the crowds with in-air action like they’ve never seen before.

One of last year's most popular events at the Animal Beach Ball was the UK leg of the Shark Beach Babe contest and it'll be back and even bigger in 2006! Under the sizzling sun, the leading energy drink will be raising temperatures further with the Sunday afternoon Newquay final seeing the girls doing their thing and bidding for a chance in the UK final. Last year it was a local Rock girl Jaclyn Evans who took the UK title. If you know a cute girl who epitomizes the Beach Babe image, tell her to get down there and secure her place in the contest. Shark will also have a new Rodeo Can where the person who lasts the longest wins a SHARK Surfboard to ride on the waves. If you simply want to kick back, why not prop yourself up at the Shark Camper Bar and have yourself a few drinks whilst checking out the local talent or if you’re feeling like a bit of exertion, be sure to enter the Shark beach volleyball contest which will be running throughout the Beach Ball.

And there’s also a chance for cool looking guys to bag themselves a modelling prize. If you’re a young guy who dares to be different, do things your own way and you have individual style, then listen up! Braun cruZer3 will be at the Animal Beach Ball, in search of that special guy who will become their 2007 ‘Braun Bloke’ and feature in a forthcoming 2007 advertising campaign. The cruZer3 scouts will be looking for the guys who fit the bill to have their photo taken and be submitted to a panel of judges who will decide which one of the potential blokes will get that all important call to be in the next campaign. There will also be a team of top stylists on hand at the event in the cruZer3 gazebo – situated next to the Animal Braun cruZer3 Bike Tour – where willing men can have their facial hair trimmed and shaped in the most unique and fashionable styles. They will also be able to pick up grooming tips, a bespoke style guide and general information regarding the cruZer3.

Honda will also be presenting the ultimate chillout tent with playstations and X Box and the opportunity to bag yourself a motorbike. 247 magazine will again be hosting some of the UK’s top graffiti artists who will create a stunning mural throughout the event and The Extreme TV channel will be there with a massive coach and a cool chillout zone showing lots of Extreme action on big TV screens. All that and ongoing live music and lots of sights and sounds will abounding the beaches throughout the festival with fun for surf seekers and families alike.

Mount Hawke based Jetscene, Cornwall’s biggest clothing and surf store and extreme sports centre are also giving all Beach Ball visitors the chance to win a jet ski in a huge raffle in conjunction with Fistral Blu and Berties. Anyone buying a ticket will receive free entries into Berties and the winner of the £7,500 jet ski will be drawn girosphere in the UK – a huge spinning machine – get ready for a shot if you dare to be dizzy! And you can challenge the pros to a test on the Jetscene Surfboard Rodeo. Top surfers Alan Stokes, Russell Winter and Ben Skinner will all record times on the first day of the Animal Beach Ball and if you beat their times on the board, you’ll instantly bag yourself a cash prize!

And there will also be lots of cool tunes and ace music to keep everyone going by day and by night. Dean Moore of Atlantic FM and Double Trouble will be on the DJ decks all day long and as the sun goes down, the new Animal Beach Ball evening sessions will kick off with a range of local bands entertaining the crowds. Then on Friday and Saturday the party rolls onto The Koola with Jelly Jazz spicing things up at the Budweiser After Party on Friday night and top DJs getting everyone busting moves at the Animal After Party on Saturday night. The big Shark official end of event after party will take place at the Help Bar in Central Square, Newquay, with the opportunity to meet the finalists of the Shark bikini comp and the winners of the surf contests as well as pick up some cool giveaways from the event. It will be a huge night!
