News SAVE TRESTLES! Benefit Concert Plays to Full House

On Friday July 14th surfers, musicians, and concert goers united to enjoy a night of reggae, ska and rock in the name of Save Trestles! by Serge Dedina

24/07/2006:// On Friday July 14th surfers, musicians, and concert goers united to enjoy a night of reggae, ska and rock in the name of Save Trestles! Trestles is a world class surf break and part of the San Onofre State Beach, which is threatened to disappear forever due to the proposed toll road which would run right through the State Beach. This development would not only ruin the surf break by preventing the natural sediment replenishment from San Mateo Creek, but would wipe out thousands of undeveloped land that many species call home.

Wildcoast hosted Friday’s concert at the newly remodeled 710 Beach club (formerly blind melons) in Pacific Beach. More than 200 people came out to enjoy the music as Burnt, Ocean Beach trio Gadfly and The Chris Murray Combo rocked to a full house. Wildcoast gathered approximately 100 personally signed postcards to San Diego City Councilmembers urging them to support the state park system by formally opposing the proposed toll road.

Raffles took place between music sets and everyone who signed a postcard was automatically entered in to it. Prizes included DVD’s, CD’s and t-shirts, which were donated by all the organizations involved. Music aficionados and ocean lovers alike left the event with a sense of hope that united they can truly make a difference and stop the destruction of an amazing surf spot and natural resource.
