News WiLDCOAST Takes Rep. Susan Davis on Water Quality Tour
[Ben McCue and Susan Davis]
On Monday, Ben McCue, Coastal Conservation Program Manager, and Oscar Romo, Coastal Training Program Coordinator of the Tijuana Estuary lead a water-quality tour for Representative Susan Davis and her staff.
by Serge Dedina
04/08/2006:// The purpose of this tour was to highlight how cross-border pollution in the Tijuana River Watershed affects the water quality of South San Diego County beaches. The tour emphasized the health threat that this pollution poses to the communities of Imperial Beach and Coronado and the need for our federal representatives to support Imperial Beach’s Comprehensive Community Clean Water Action Plan.
Rep. Davis summed up her commitment to back a comprehensive clean water solution to stop cross-border sewage on ABC’s nightly news: “I think we could have a better solution than what is currently being discussed…for this area”
The event made the nightly news on ABC, KUSI, Univision and Televisa.
WiLDCOAST has also invited California Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein to also take part in the tour as a way to understand the sources of cross-border contamination to our beaches and urge them to support the Clean Water Action Plan.
