Devon local wins junior category of BLU by Howard Swanwick

04/10/2006:// Gwithian in Cornwall played host to the third event of the British Longboard Union (BLU) surf contest over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of September. The contest was sponsored by Sunset Surf and Oxbow and run in very good conditions with perfect 3 to 4 foot clean surf.

The BLU runs 4 contests a year around the South West and show cases the very best of British Longboard Surfing talent. This weekend�s event even attracted a competitor from Australia who was on a tour of the UK.

There was some excellent surfing in all categories with the best longboard surfers in the country able to exhibit their world class skills. North Devon Junior Ben Haworth surfed brilliantly in the junior event making it very hard for any of the other youngsters to get close to him. This gives Ben 2 firsts and a second place in the series so far, and with one event to go he looks set to take the crown as the overall series junior champion at the final event to be held at Woolacombe on the 7th and the 8th of October.
