Victory guarantees an exciting finale for BPSA event

31/10/2006:// Back to back victories by Matt Capel at the penultimate British Professional Surf Assocation event of the season in south Cornwall guarantees an exciting finale to the season..
The South Devon surfer's win in 2ft waves at Praa Sands puts him within striking distance of the Open title.
Capel, who won the overall Pro Junior title as at the Headworx Welsh Open took advantage of a paddling infringment against reigning BPSA tour champion Reubyn Pearce in the final to take top spot at Praa.
Newquay's Mark Harris surfted superbly into second place to keep his 2006 open title hopes alive.
Pearce was third with Oli Adams fourth, in what was his first final appearance of the season.
Capel, who walked off with the £1,000 top prize, also won the Freerange Best Tail-slide Manoeuvre of the event.
Event Director Dave Reed said “Matt has shown he is a phenomenal talent at this event and previous events, being raised in Australia has given him a knowledge of how good he needs to be if he is going to be successful on a world stage.
“He is only 19 and has a great surfing career ahead of him," added Reid
Island Style UK distributor Jason Ross said “We saw the best of British surfers competing over the weekend and had a great insight at the amount of talented surfers there are in UK at present” adding “We would like to congratulate and thank all the surfers who took part”
The final event of the season - The Gul Newquay Open - which will decide the overall champion takes place at Newquay's Fistral Beach on November 11th and 12th.
