News BLU title charge hots up

[Welsh longboard wizard Elliott Dudley]

Four surfers placed to lift trophy by George Mojo

07/06/2007:// Four surfers are perfectly placed to lift the British Longboard Union title at the halfway stage of the season.

British champion Elliot Dudley and Newquay's Adam Griffiths go into the last two events with one victory apiece.

World Games silver medallist Ben Skinner, from Cornwall, and James Perry have each claimed a second place.

Skinner was joint winner of the 2006 Open division with Sennen's Sam Bleakley.

Similarly, Chris "Guts" Griffiths has won two events in the Masters division, and needs just one more win to guarantee him another title to add to his impressive trophy cabinet.

One of Britain's most successful competitors, the Swansea surfer won the European Longboard Championships in 1997 and 1999 and has won a dozen Welsh and British titles.

Griffiths is also competing in the Open division and is the only surfer to have made the final of each event so far.

With two second places in two events, Porth's Sophie Skinner is the most consistent surfer in the Ladies division this year.

Marja Van Leuwen, from St Agnes, and Newquay's Louise West have each won one event, and the next two events will be critical.

This weekend the tour travels to Jersey ahead of the last event at Watergate Bay, in Cornwall, on June 16th and 17th.
