News Bajagua project latest

Feinstein Supports Alternative Border Sewage Plan Asks GAO to Investigate Bajagua by

12/07/2007:// Thanks to your letters, calls, and faxes to Senator Diane Feinstein according to the Associated Press (in a story that has spun worldwide already),

"Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has questions about the (Bajagua) project and recently requested a study by the Government Accountability Office.
As an alternative, President Bush requested $66 million in his 2008 budget proposal for upgrades to the existing sewage treatment plant in San Diego, which backers say would effectively kill the Bajagua project. Feinstein, who sits on the Appropriations Committee, supports the expenditure, said spokesman Scott Gerber."

As you can see from below, the Bajagua backers threw a tantrum in Congress today as a result of all of our great work to pressure our government to clean up our beaches. According to Ben McCue of Wildcoast who took a red-eye to Washington to attend the hearing and personally meet with our Senators and Congressmen on behalf of our community for Clean Water--it was "embarrassing to watch their antics."

We will continue our battle for clean water with your support. All of you who care about our coast and ocean pitched and for that we are grateful. We still have a lot of work to do--but this shows that people power does work and is right way to fight!
