Brazilian hungry for title once more
by George Mojo
30/07/2007:// It has been a few years since he was in England, but 25 year old Renato Galvao from Ubatuba on Brazil’s coastline north of Sao Paolo, is hungry to regain the Boardmasters title that he won in 2004.
In epic conditions not seen at the event since, Renato beat Australia’s Luke Munro to secure his first WQS victory. Renato has been busy at home over the past few years competing successfully in National events, and following a great result last month at his home beach of Itamambuca, is now sitting in fourth place on the Supersurf Tour.
His goal however has been to return to the world stage, and now with the support of his new sponsors, South to South, that has been made possible.
South to South recently launched their surfwear brand in Europe by opening their first store outside of Brazil in Falmouth, Cornwall, and they are standing right behind Renato and his dreams.
South to South founder Mauricio Fagundes sees the new arrangement as a special partnership "My respect for Renato goes beyond the waves. He is a champion both in and out of the water. He really represents everything that South to South stands for and believes in."
"South to South is a company that eats and breathes surf." said Renato. Prior to leaving Brazil, Renato was photographed with his fellow team mates, shrouded by the twin flags of Brazil and Cornwall as a symbol of solidarity.
As well as taking part in the Newquay Boardmasters, he is planning to hold a surfing masterclass at the Gwithian Surf Academy on August 3rd.
Anyone interested in joining in for the day should telephone 01872 554243, or call in to the store at 53 Church Street, Falmouth.
