Opening three rounds made for Cornish event
by George Mojo
06/08/2007:// The draw has been made for the opening three rounds of the Rip Curl Boardmasters in Cornwall.
Britain has nine surfers competiting in the event with Newquay's Russell Winter one of the top seeds at the 5star WQS event.
Winter, a past winner of the event, is up against Australian Drew Courtney in his round three opener.
It promises to be an exciting heat for the 31-year-old at Fistral Beach - with a place in the last 48 up for grabs.
Home advantage should give Winter the edge although with only two of the four man encounter yet decided and plenty of top talent competing in the earlier rounds the draw could play a factor.
Jayce Robinson, from St Ives, is given a berth directly into round two where the England interntional is up against Spaniard Hodel Collazo.
Seven Britons are in the first round draw.
Newquay's British champion Sam Lamiroy faces Australian Dallas Peterson and Frenchman Jean Estienne.
Bude's prolific competition winner Reubyn Ash looks to have a slightly easier draw against Trojaoli Txatur, from Spain, and Australian Blake Thornton.
Top American Dean Reynolds and Euskadi's Oier Illaramendi stand in the way of Newquay's Llewellyn Whittaker making it through to the round of 144.
Newquay's English champion Oli Adams has an interesting tie against former Exeter University surfer Josh Lewan and Wiggery Dantas, from Brazil.
Lewan, from Australia, and Adams are both regulars on the world pro tour and are well aware of each others surfing styles.
Another former south west student Martin Black has a tough heat against talented Brazilian Thiago de Souza and American Chris Waring.
Sam Smart is up against Peru's Gabriel Villarian and Josh Dowthwaite.
Johnny Fryer completes the UK line up and is pitted against American Tab Texter and Jenson Hassett, from Hawaii.
The best of the heat three tussles will include former world junior champion Adriano de Souza against Australian Jake Paterson; the current WQS number four Ben Bourgeois meets Spaniard Pablo Gutierrez and WCT surfer Shaun Cansdell is drawn against France's Romain Laulhe.
