News Three year deal for surf museum

New sponsorship for British Surfing Museum by George Mojo

16/09/2007:// A new sponsorship deal is set to result in a new purpose built venue for the British Surfing Museum within the next three years.

It is the first and only museum of its kind in the UK and has been set up to preserve and celebrate British surf history.

For the past three years it has toured locations around the British Isles.

The museum has the most extensive and historically significant collection of vintage surfboards, literature and memorabilia on public display and for academic research in Britain.

Museum Director Peter Robinson says “The museum aims to document our rich and diverse surf culture and its heritage, capturing the soul of British surfing. Oxbows generous donation means we have a secure future until at least 2010”.

Surfing giants Oxbow have announced its supporting the museum for the next three years as part of its current marketing strategy which aims to ‘go back to the roots’ of longboard surfing.

According to the company, this long term support of the Museum aims to demonstrate its dedication to surfing and aims to help preserve the history of the sport for generations to come.

The museum is also planning to open in a new purpose-built venue in 2010.

The Surfing Museum will next be on display at: Havant Museum in Hampshire, January 19th - March 1st 2008.

Red House Museum, Christchurch, May 3rd - June 14th 2008. The National Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby June 28th - September 7th 2008
