by Serge Dedina
08/12/2007:// A GENERAL ADVISORY has been issued for the San Diego County coastline due to contamination by urban runoff following rain. Swimmers, surfers, and other ocean users are warned that levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean waters, especially near storm drains, creeks, rivers, and lagoon outlets that discharge urban runoff. Activities such as swimming, surfing, and diving should be avoided for 3 days following rain. The most recent rain occurred today, December 7, 2007. The GENERAL ADVISORY will end on Monday, December 10. The GENERAL ADVISORY applies to ocean waters as well as Mission Bay and San Diego Bay. To see a map of locations that may be affected by urban runoff flows, log on towww.beaches911.org.
While many coastal outlets are posted with permanent metal warning signs, additional temporary signs are not posted for General Advisories.
