19/01/2008:// The County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health extended its water contact closure to include Imperial Beach as well as Border Field State Park and Tijuana Slough Nat'l Wildlife Refuge. This includes the entire coastline of Imperial Beach, as well as Boca Rio and Tijuana Sloughs surf breaks.
Reason: Sewage contaminated runoff from the Tijuana River.
Contact with sewage contaminated water is a serious health threat. The County strongly recommends against swimming, surfing, or any direct water contact during beach closure events.
