As I tested boards and learned in a deeper way about design and how boards really worked, the more I wanted to influence what I was riding. I was surrounded by the front runners of design and new technologies that I could learn from. Let's face it. How many surfboard designers have degrees in hydrodynamics?

The evolution of boards has always been based on testing and refining the components of design like rocker, outline, materials, etc. The feedback from the rider to the change of the design has been the major factors of this evolution. The great designers that think outside of the box and come up with new approaches also face the same refinement factors. A good design is always the key ingredient because you will find that a good design will work in many different applications such as epoxy, poly, carbon etc. but it is not the material technologies alone.
