News ASP Australia joins international arm

[The number of high-rated Australian surf competitions are set to increase]

ASP International has announce the inception of their fourth regional branch, ASP Australasia by George Mojo

14/07/2008:// Formerly a regional licensee, ASP Australasia is now a branch of ASP International and is responsible for the administration of the region's World Qualifying Series (WQS), Junior and Longboard events.

"ASP International has been in the process of converting our licensees to a branch structure globally," ASP CEO Brodie Carr said. "The change affords ASP more input and direction into the brand of ASP and professional surfing. We have seen surfing businesses around the world change their models and adopt this philosophy and ASP is following suit."

ASP Australasia joins ASP Japan, ASP North America and ASP Africa in ASP International's burgeoning branch structure. The regions still operating under licensee terms include ASP South America, ASP Europe and ASP Hawaii.

"So far the change has been very successful and well received by surfers and industry," Carr said. "In three of our four branches, we will be increasing the number of high rated WQS events offered in 2009."

ASP Australasia, like the branch entities in North America, Africa and Japan, is effectively an extension of ASP International.

"We partner with global brands and it allows ASP and our events to work more consistently across the globe."

ASP Australasia is based in Casuarina, New South Wales, Australia and is overseen by ASP Australasia Tour Manager Glenn Best. ASP Australasia sanctions events in Australia and in nearby South Pacific locales like the Maldives.
